lessons learnt
NOkia PC suite WILL NOT WORK ON the china mobile.
You do not need the china mobile pc suite from the link above as windows xp and later will automatically detect the usb storage device (the pc suite above needs a com port which for some reason does not detect the driver mt6225) but on the phone if you choose usb storage xp will detect the mt6225 drivers automatically.

still do not know how to set up vodafone internet on the phone :(
